2021 The Year of the Phoenix

If there’s one thing I learned about 2020 it’s that the only thing that’s predictable is unpredictability. I’ve had a hard time thinking of what to write on my New Year’s post for 2021, and I think it’s because we are all going through this utter loss of reality and life as we knew it. Never in my wildest dreams would me a year ago believe the reality that we live in today. Covid-19 is obviously catastrophic, but in an optimistic light I think we all learned a lot. My perception and priorities have been altered dramatically. Surprisingly, I think my word that I picked to represent 2020 in January of last year was actually accomplished. The word was meraki which means to do something with soul, creativity, or love; to put something of yourself into your work. I really enjoyed having extra free time to focus on my music. Even though we can all agree 2020 was a dreadful year, I think that a lot of creativity was put out into the world. My word for this year is:

Phoenix

An ancient bird that originated from ancient Greek folklore that is born again from it’s ashes.

The Phoenix is a majestic bird often associated with the rising sun and fire. After a long life it bursts into flames before dying. It is then reborn from its ashes to began a new long life. I chose this word for 2021 because it represents renewal and resurrection. I didn’t really make a set list of resolutions this year, but my goal is to heal, improve, and make sure that who I am is who I want to be. I think last year took a toll on everybody and we need time to set our priorities in order. One thing that I am doing to kick off the new year is MadFit’s 1-month fitness plan. If you want to check it out click (here). I had a bit of a late start to it, but I don’t think it’s necessary for goals to begin on January 1st. Anytime is a good time to better yourself. I’ve learned that habits become routines and can really alter your lifestyle so committing to a schedule can make a goal a reality. Someone that I find very inspiring is Alivia D’Andrea. Whether you are interested in healthy eating and fitness or not, her messages are truly motivating and thought-provoking. A motto of her’s is “Are you who you want to be?” I find her journey as a human is one of determination. So many of us find ourselves in the ashes, but may we rise anew like the phoenix for the dawn of a new year.
