Time's Lament: An Original Song

TIme'sLamentCover(3).jpg

Sometimes we experience time in a dream-like state, fluctuating from moments we want to save in a locket, to moments we just want to lock away. When reality is stranger than fiction, the passage of time takes on a new form. We seize the present, only to have a vague sense that we have been there before. We think of time as a straight forward, linear thing, but some moments pass in a flash and others not soon enough. We always wish that we had more time, yet we are thankful when time does its magic and ghosts fade like holograms into the night. Maybe time offers us a sorting device where we can pick and choose what memories are worthy of preserving. Most of all, time tells us to be the best version of yourself today. If you are waiting for someday to be that person, time is not on your side.

Thank you to Chris Bihuniak of Rock Band Academy Studios! Not only has he been my producer for years, but as a mentor has taught me so much.

Time’s Lament

By Grace Piper Fields

We were hiding in plain sight

Meeting under the streetlight

Another hour gone and this feels like a dream

It’s also a nightmare too

I see your eyes in the moonlight

Tears frozen like frostbite

Carpe diem nights

You taste like deja vu, ooo

If moments could materialize

I’d put this one in a locket

If I was in a sinking boat

would you try not to rock it?

My smile didn’t match my eyes

Until you painted it on like a disguise

But time’s not on your side

Bum bum bum bum dum ba dum bum bum

bum bum bum ba da

Bum bum bum bum dum ba dum bum bum

bum bum bum ba da

Bum bum bum bum dum ba dum bum bum

bum bum bum ba da

I left your shadow by the dockside

It wasn’t said, but it was implied

Carpe diem nights

You taste like deja vu, ooo

If moments could materialize

I’d put this one in a locket

If I was in a sinking boat

would you try not to rock it?

My smile didn’t match my eyes

Until you painted it on like a disguise

But time’s not on your side

Whoo!

Bum bum bum bum dum ba dum bum bum

bum bum bum ba da

Bum bum bum bum dum ba dum bum bum

bum bum bum ba da

Bum bum bum bum dum ba dum bum bum

bum bum bum ba da

Ooo ooo, message from the divine

Hit me like a marquee sign

Ooo, ooo it was the night of Waterloo

You bid your last adieu-ooo

Fade in and out of sight

Like hologram headlights

Ooo, ooo escape artist in the night

If moments could materialize

I’d put this one in a locket

If I was in a sinking boat

would you try not to rock it?

My smile didn’t match my eyes

Until you painted it on like a disguise

But time’s not on your side

Whoo!

Bum bum bum bum dum ba dum bum bum

bum bum bum ba da

Bum bum bum bum dum ba dum bum bum

bum bum bum ba da

Bum bum bum bum dum ba dum bum bum

bum bum bum ba da

But time’s not on your side

Would you toss your very last dime

In the fountain of time?

Would you toss your very last dime

In the fountain of time?

Would you toss your very last dime

In the fountain of time?
