Write Your Own Story
A lot of people are talking about the world premiere musical “Between the Lines,” which is being put on by the Kansas City Repertory Theatre, and I can see why. I went to see the show last night, and found its messages very powerful. Even though there is a lot of humor and catchy songs, there were a couple times when I shed a few tears. The take away messages I got from this show were: If you don’t like the story you are currently living, then write a new one for yourself. If you are searching for your own happiness in someone else (like a prince), you won’t find it there. Happiness comes from within yourself, but don’t shut other people out. If you want a great relationship with someone else, get your own life in order first. This show takes place in a high school setting, so I think younger people can really relate to it. I especially liked the ending because when Delilah, the main character, focused on being the best version of herself, she got her happily ever after.
I am a believer in writing your own story. I think this could apply to many aspects of life, but one aspect is personal style. I am still developing a personal style, and I’m sure it will change over time, but right now I am gravitating toward clothes that have feminine touches, such as florals, ruffles, off the shoulder shirts, jewelry, and hats. For fall I’m especially liking crushed velvet, like this scarlet red top I recently found at Etiquette. Just so it doesn’t get too sweet, I like to add a bit of an edgy touch somehow either with an unexpected cut to an outfit, or with jewelry and accessories. I’m calling this look “Edgy Romantic.” My mom, who takes a lot of my photos, jokingly calls this look “Tragic Ballerina.” I think this is because I don’t smile in a lot of my pictures. There is a real reason for this- I am a typical middle school girl whose mouth is full of orthodontia, and I now have some new extra rubber bands that look more dinosaur than attractive. I am actually a lot more of a happy-go-lucky person than I sometimes look in my pictures. Edgy Romantic probably does fit my personality, though. I love the arts in all its forms, including music and dance. I like to use descriptive words, and could spend my life traveling to exotic places. My head isn't always in the clouds- there is a part of me that just likes to switch things up. I’m an edgy romantic.
