Trying aerial silks had been on my bucket list for a long time. I had seen pictures and always thought it looked so cool! Being so busy with all of my lessons, musical theatre, and dance, it was hard to persuade my mom to let me try to fit it into my schedule. Finally, I tried aerial silks for the first time last summer. Going to the studio for my first time was awe-inspiring! All the instructors were doing these unique and amazing tricks… truly mind-blowing. I began taking private lessons for one hour a week. My instructor, Brent, pushed me to limits I didn’t know were possible for me. I was extremely proud to perform for my family and friends at my first showcase in January. I performed in my second showcase this June. My first drop was one called the pencil. Brent told me to open up. (That is the part when you roll down the silk.) It was like an enormous trust fall. I extended and seemed to be flying through the air, weightlessly soaring. There was a jerk as I was caught and sensation gone. So I guess what I’m trying to say is, there is something thrilling about taking a risk.
