A Teacher's Influence
I have been a dancer since pre-school, so fitness has always been a part of my life. I became more aware of the importance of health and fitness in 4th grade. My fourth grade teacher, Mr. Lind, rode his bike to school everyday, rain or shine. He would even ride in the snow, as long as it wasn't icy. Not only did he teach us the regular curriculum, he taught us life skills, and would often side track off of our regular lesson to talk about healthy eating and exercise. Every day we would have a warm up to get our bodies moving. We even did pushups sometimes! He drank healthy smoothies everyday, as well. He felt it was important for us to know basic sign language and learn decision making skills from playing chess. Mr. Lind was so much more than just a teacher, his ideas about health and fitness made a huge impact on me. My personal fitness goals center on strength building and flexibility. I try to eat a wide variety of food. One of my fitness goals is to try to add more protein into my meals. Another goal for me is to eat more vegetables. Like any other teenager, I love pizza and ice-cream too!
